Guidestar International
Organisation information
GuideStar International (GSI), a UK-registered charity, is building a global network of websites with detailed reports on countries’ civil society organisations (CSOs) to make them more visible to those who wish to support their work.
Website details
Civil Society Systems identified that their target audience would be made up of a wide spectrum of users from all over the world. It was also felt that a certain percentage of that audience would be visiting from areas where dial-up connection was used as a primary method of connecting to the Internet.
With this firmly in mind care was taken to reduce load time by developing the site with Cascading Style Sheets, limiting site graphics to only a few essential images and minimizing HTML file size where ever possible.
It terms of style, the website has been designed to look clean, bright and professional. The earthy colour palette links in well with the current company colour scheme and the design conveys the value of the organisation's work without being too corporate or stuffy.
The website looks, functions and operates the same across a wide range of modern browsers and operating systems and degrades gracefully for users of old web browsing software.
To keep the content up to date the website was built on top of an easy to use Content Management System (CMS). The CMS also enables authorised staff to create and archive news items and upload various files for visitors to download.
