In late summer of 2004 Thomas Bloor contacted Suspire Media and asked us to redesign his website. He wanted his new website to be bright, easy to use and accessible. Tom was also toying with the idea of implementing some kind of simple book-log or blogging system.

Tom was very keen to discuss various ideas around how his new site could be re-developed, themed and in particular made attractive to younger visitors. After some discussions around colour, style and content we decided to use the book cover of his new novel 'Worm in the Blood' as a starting point.

We replicated the blood-red, rough look of the book cover to create header sections for each page; Tom's logo was then placed on top to complete the look.

Just above each header section a graphical navigation system was developed, time was spent fine-tuning and perfecting this so it resembled torn paper. To finish the look, an old typewriter font was used to label each button. We also decided to animate the buttons on mouse-over; the brief drop down effect added an extra touch and a pleasant surprise for users.

To continue with the paper/book theme we decided to use Georgia for page text and used MS Trebuchet for page headings, this complemented the overall style well. Across the top of the book sections we created thumbnails based on Tom's other book covers. These were then individually linked to pages containing more details about each book.

Tom preferred to use BloggerTM to power his book-log; the Blogger template was edited so it fitted in seamlessly with the rest of the design. The website also contains a simple interactive quiz, a biography, and a number of Tom's sketches.
